Van Tuyl have been on the search for specialized clays for a while now especially Porcelains and Stoneware. Don’t get us wrong….. we have some good clay in South Africa but Sio-2 clays are another level. Recently Van Tuyl and Sio-2 partnered up to bring some of the best clay can find in Europe.
Since 1874 over 150 years Sio-2 have been a manufacturer of ceramic clays for industry, pottery and artistic ceramics, and natural modelling clays for crafts, fine arts and education.

- Black Ice – (Black porcelain) – noted for its beautiful black graphite. It has high plasticity, which makes it ideal for wheel-throwing and modelling.
- Jade – (Translucent porcelain) – this is a super translucent porcelain from the city of Jingdezhen, the world capital of porcelain . It is characterized by its extraordinary translucency and whiteness. It is ideal for decorative porcelain and tableware.
- Upsala – (Blue porcelain) – this is a unique blue noted for its beautiful cobalt blue. It has high plasticity, which makes it ideal for wheel-throwing and modelling. Suitable for tableware (food-safe).
- Speckled Stoneware– this clay is designed for artistic ceramics, it contains melting minerals that develop a seductive surface with dark spots of different sizes and shades that stand out in an ivory-white matrix. Its high grog content provides excellent behaviour during drying and firing. Decoration with transparent glazes is ideal to enhance the vividness of the speckled effect.
- Black Stoneware – this clay with 40% impalpable grog 0-0.2 mm (up to 80 Mesh). Formulated for artistic ceramics, it is ideal for wheel-throwing and modelling smooth pieces with fine details. It’s beautiful and intense black firing colour is very exclusive. Suitable for tableware (food-safe).
